Laser hair removal has been popular for many years. It’s a wonderfully safe, quick, and effective way to eliminate unwanted hair virtually anywhere on the body. Many people seek laser hair removal for their underarms in particular. It can be a daily annoyance to shave your armpits and if you forgot or didn’t have time, then you have to choose a shirt that will keep them under wraps. Imagine never bothering with those pesky considerations again! Laser hair removal can do that. But let’s look at another aspect of underarm rejuvenation that you may not be familiar with. Did you know that Botox can be used to control excessive underarm sweating? It has been shown to be effective in treating this condition, called axillary hyperhidrosis, and can be done during the same visit as your laser hair removal procedure. Let’s break it down.
Underarm Laser Hair Removal
This procedure works by directing a precisely targeted, high-intensity light onto individual hair follicles, just below the surface of the skin. The follicle is killed when the pigment inside it absorbs the light. After which, the follicle ceases to produce new hairs. It takes about one second for this type of laser to treat an area the size of a quarter. It is safe, fast, and effective. Most of our clients report that the laser feels like a quick rubber band snap, meaning there is very little discomfort and no downtime for recovery.
Botox for Excessive Sweating (Axillary Hyperhidrosis)
Botox has long been used to dramatically reduce dynamic wrinkles on the face. It works by blocking the neurotransmitters that initiate muscle contraction. When applied to facial muscles around the eyes, for instance, the muscles contract less and the wrinkles appear diminished (and do not deepen as they otherwise would). When the same principle and procedure is applied to the underarms, it causes the sweat glands to relax. They won’t go into overdrive and cause you to look like and feel like a hot mess! It’s safe and effective and takes only a few minutes to complete. It can be done on your lunch hour, believe it or not.
Repeat Sessions for Laser Hair Removal and Botox
It’s important to keep in mind that, due to the nature of hair growth, laser hair removal will require a series of treatment sessions. Hair grows in multi-phase cycles, and the phases are offset, with different follicles growing at different stages. Because the laser targets only actively-growing follicles, we have to catch them at that stage. Botox will require multiple sessions as well, since it is actually absorbed by the body (don’t worry, it’s completely safe!). Each of these treatments are virtually pain free and require no down time. And, they are both so quickly done that we can do both at the same visit and have you back to your busy day in no time.
