Here at Raval Facial Aesthetics, we answer questions all the time from women and men considering facial enhancement. That’s an important part of our job – helping people understand what kind of treatments are available and how they work. One of the questions we’re often asked is whether dermal fillers will “sink” after they are injected.
The short answer is no. But it’s a good question. So let’s take a closer look at how dermal fillers work once injected.
What is Dermal Filler?
Although each product is unique, all of today’s most advanced fillers are made from biodegradable ingredients such as vitamin A or hyaluronic acid. These substances occur naturally in the body, which is why side-effects from filler injections are rare.
Raval Facial Aesthetics offers five different types of dermal fillers. Some are formulated to address very specific issues, whereas others provide broader benefits. These differences enable each person to achieve the aesthetic goal(s) they have in mind, whether it’s an isolated area or involves most or all of their face. For example:
- Restylane helps enhance facial volume for a fuller, more youthful appearance
- Restylane Silk is specifically designed for the lips, helping refine shape, improve definition and make lips look smoother
- Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to add volume to the cheeks
- Juvederm helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, folds and smile lines
- Voluma is used to add volume to the mouth area as well as the cheeks
Dermal Fillers are not Permanent
While dermal fillers do a good job of remaining in place as positioned by injection, they do not permanently change your face. As already noted, these products are made from naturally-occurring compounds. Over time they are absorbed by the body, and that can diminish the changes made to targeted areas.
For this reason, patients often choose to get repeat injections to maintain their more youthful appearance. How often these are needed depends on the specific filler – it could be anywhere from a few months to as long as two years, in the case of Voluma.
